Caulk or silicone?
For tubs and showers, 100% silicone with a mold inhibitor lasts longest. Paintable acrylic caulk is for trim and walls.
Why not just add new caulk on top?
New caulk won't bond to old caulk or mold. It peels within months. Everything comes out first.
How long until I can shower?
Most silicone needs about 24 hours before it gets wet.
How often should a tub be recaulked?
When it cracks, peels, or stays dark after cleaning. In a busy shower that can be every few years.
