Window replacement and repair in Monterey Park

Plenty of windows on older Monterey Park houses are original aluminum sliders and wood double-hungs that stick, rattle, fog between panes or refuse to stay open. Some only need new glass, rollers or balances. When the frame is tired, we take the old unit out and fit a new one into the same opening, without cutting or resizing the wall.

The fixes we cover

  • Replacing a window unit in its existing opening (retrofit or full-frame, same size)
  • Cutting in and installing replacement glass for cracked or broken panes
  • Swapping fogged dual-pane glass units when the frame is still sound
  • Replacing sash balances and spiral or block-and-tackle springs
  • New rollers, tracks and latches on sliding windows
  • Freeing painted-shut or swollen wood sashes
  • Re-sealing the exterior perimeter and interior trim after install
  • Rescreening or building new screens to match

Where it usually goes wrong

  • Rollers on old sliders wear flat, so the sash drags along the track and the latch no longer lines up.
  • Balances in single and double-hung windows break, so the sash falls shut or won’t stay up.
  • The seal on a dual-pane unit fails and moisture fogs the space between the glass.
  • Layers of paint glue wood sashes in place, and dried glazing putty lets panes rattle.

How a visit works

  1. Call or text a photo. Tell us what's wrong and your ZIP code.
  2. Quote before work. Text us a picture, and you’ll have our quote before work begins.
  3. The visit. We text before heading over.
  4. Parts and extras. Parts vary from job to job, so your quote spells them out. If we open things up and find more, anything extra waits until you say yes.

What to have ready

  • A photo of the whole window from inside and one from outside
  • The width and height of the opening, roughly, if you can measure it
  • What the problem is: broken glass, fog, sticking, will not latch, drafts
  • Whether there are blinds, alarms or bars we should take off first

Windows questions

Something else? Call or text and ask.

Can you replace just the glass instead of the whole window?

Often, yes. A single cracked pane can be reglazed, and a fogged dual-pane unit can be replaced as a sealed piece if the frame is in good shape. If the frame is bent, rotted or the track is worn out, a full unit makes more sense, and we explain why.

What is the difference between a retrofit and a full-frame replacement?

A retrofit window sits inside the old frame, with a flange that covers the gap on the outside, so the stucco and interior trim stay put. A full-frame job takes the old frame out to the rough opening. Both keep the opening the same size. Which one fits depends on the condition of the old frame and the wall around it.

Can you make the opening bigger, or add a new window?

No. Widening, shrinking or cutting a new opening means changing the framing in the wall, and that work goes to a remodeling contractor. We stick to windows that fit the openings you already have.

My double-hung window won’t stay open. What is wrong?

The balances are the likely culprit. They are springs or cords in the side jambs that hold the sash up. Once we know the type, they can usually be replaced without touching the glass or the frame.

Do you handle window screens too?

Yes. We rescreen torn screens and make new ones to fit, which pairs well with a new window or a reglazed sash. See our window screens page for more.
