Door repair in Monterey Park

Most sticking and dragging doors aren't broken. The hinges have loosened or the house has settled. I tighten and shim hinges, move the strike, plane the edge if it has to come off, and replace worn hinges and closers. When a door is warped or split, I hang a new one.

What I fix

  • Doors that stick, drag, or won't latch: hinges tightened, shimmed, or replaced
  • Planing and sealing a door edge
  • Moving or adjusting the strike plate
  • Door closers and spring hinges adjusted or replaced
  • Hanging a new interior slab or pre-hung door

Problems I see most

  • Hinge screws strip out of the jamb, so the door sags at the top corner.
  • Seasonal swelling makes a door rub, then it's fine again in summer.
  • Closers slam or won't close because the adjustment drifted or the oil leaked out.

How a visit works

  1. Call or text a photo. Tell me what's wrong and your ZIP code.
  2. You get a price first. Most doors jobs I can price from a photo. If I need to see it, I'll say so.
  3. The visit. Time on site: 1–2 hours per door. Visits: usually one. confirm
  4. Parts and cleanup. If parts are needed, you approve the cost before I buy them, and I clean up the work area. confirm

What to have ready

  • A short video of the door closing, or photos of where it rubs
  • Whether it's interior or exterior
  • For a new door: the size (often written on the hinge edge) and swing direction
  • Clear space on both sides of the door

Doors questions

Something else? Call or text and ask.

Why does my door suddenly stick?

Usually the top hinge has loosened, or seasonal moisture swelled the wood. Longer hinge screws into the framing fix most of these.

Repair or replace a door?

Repair it if it's solid and only out of adjustment. Replace it if it's warped, split, delaminated, or water-damaged at the bottom.

Can you replace my door closer?

Yes. Screen and security door closers, and hydraulic closers on gates and entry doors, can be adjusted or replaced.

Do you replace exterior doors?

Yes, a slab or a pre-hung door in the same opening. Send a photo and the door size for a price.
